About MVG
Jim and Karen Byrne have owned Mission Viejo Glass since 2003 when the original owners retired. Today their entire family works in the business, which specializes in all types of glass and mirror, including heavy shower doors and all types of windows. The company has doubled in size since its inception in 1974 and has continued to grow since the grand opening of Rancho Santa Margarita Glass in November, 2006. The Orange County Business Journal recently voted Mission Viejo Glass Family Business of the Year.
Mission Viejo Glass offers free, courteous estimates to all of South Orange County. The company is able to do custom mirror work, beveled glass, retrofit windows, auto glass, polishing, mirrored wardrobe doors and all types of windows and window glass replacement.
Mission Viejo Glass offers only the highest quality products at the best possible prices, and has been providing excellence in quality and customer service since 1974.
Jim and Karen value a good relationship with their employees, customers and vendors. They strive to excel in customer service and want their employees to feel valued and encouraged to succeed.
One of the many factors that contribute to the success of this family business is motivating their employees by creating a fun, family atmosphere. Jim and Karen understand the importance of giving employees time to balance work and family life. Employee recognition programs are important to maintaining their enthusiasm. Each Friday an “Employee of the Week” is chosen and rewarded. Once a year an “Employee of the Year” is chosen by all the employees and presented with a very special and personalized gift, such as a trip to Daytona Beach, Florida for NASCAR or a vacation in Hawaii.
It has always been important to select the best employees for the job. Several employees of Mission Viejo Glass and Rancho Santa Margarita Glass have been with the company for nearly 20 years, with a few passing the 30 year mark.
Jim and Karen offer their staff opportunities to attend seminars and continue their education. Once a year, representatives of the company will attend the National Glass Convention in Las Vegas to gain new and innovative ideas within the glazing industry.
The family loves working together. Sons Matt and Brian hold important positions within the company. Matt operates and oversees the retrofit window division while Brian is being mentored by Jim to head the construction division. Their wives, Kristan and Allison are invaluable to both businesses, managing the offices at both locations.
Jim and Karen have provided a nursery at the Rancho Santa Margarita location for their new grandson, Jake, who was welcomed in 2007. It is very important to them to provide the perfect balance for their working mom and to make sure family is still the most important part of their business.
Mission Viejo Glass is also involved with many local charitable organizations and has many community affiliations. Each year they sponsor student athletes in various high school sports, including Tesoro High school, Trabuco Hills High School, Capistrano Valley High School, Saddleback College Football, as well as the Boy Scouts of America. They recently sent three of their employees to the Toys for Tots Golf
Tournament, benefiting underprivileged youth in our area. They regularly contribute to Habit for Humanity and participated in Extreme Makeover Home Edition for a deserving family in Irvine.
